The Shadow of the Torturer

The Shadow of the Torturer - Gene Wolfe sorry to say, but it was all over the place. The writing was hard to follow, everybody speaks in the same formal way, no matter what background. The language used is complex, doesn't flow. Paragraphs jump and overall make the story hard to read. Plus: The narrator strikes again..
The main character is narrating this story, removing the little suspense that was created in the puzzle-like writing.
Some moments are really nice, but they lead nowhere, are never explained, have no great consequences, they just go under, sink among all the over-complex writing. Even the end of the book is apologetic to the reader, asking us if we really want to read the second book.

That's a no for me.
